Prague with kids
Prague with kids is easier than the postcards suggest, because the transport does the hard part. Children under 15 ride free, a stroller with a child in it rides free too, and tram 22 climbs to the castle so small legs do not have to. The old centre is compact. The Old Town Hall tower, the river boats and Charles Bridge sit within a ten-minute walk of each other.
More about the city
The catch is the crowds. Old Town Square and Charles Bridge are packed from mid-morning to evening for most of the year, so do the famous bits before 10 am and spend the afternoons where local families go: the zoo in Troja, the technical museum on Letná, the parks. Prices are in Czech crowns and child tickets usually start at age 6, so under-sixes get into most places free.

Tips by age
- Take tram 22 to Pražský hrad for the castle. The Old and New Castle Stairs are long staircases.
- The Old Town Hall tower has a lift and a barrier-free entrance from Mikulášská Street, so a baby can come up too.
- For a calm feed in the centre, the MiniHood café on floor +2 of Palladium has a private nursing corner.
- Ride the Petřín funicular up from Újezd. Children ride free and adults need a CZK 100 single or a 24-hour ticket.
- At the Kingdom of Railways, children under 1 metre tall pay CZK 50 and not the CZK 390 full price.
- At the zoo, borrow a pull cart at the main entrance. It carries up to 40 kg and saves tired legs.
- Buy the combined Petřín ticket: tower and Mirror Maze for CZK 200 a child, or CZK 600 for the whole family.
- The National Museum's Children's Museum runs 90-minute slots at 10:15, 12:15, 14:15 and 16:15, CZK 140 per child.
- The technical museum's mine tour is an add-on from age 3. Ask for it when you buy tickets.
- Carry a passport or ID card for children aged 10 to 14. Without it they pay the adult fare on public transport.
- Prague Castle's reduced ticket runs to age 16: CZK 300 for the Main circuit, valid for two days.
- Buy Aquapalace tickets online. Weekend visits are then charged at the Monday to Thursday price.

Prague with kids: common questions
Is Prague stroller-friendly?
Partly. Public transport is good for strollers: buses are low-floor, low-floor trams run on every daytime line, a stroller with a child rides free and 48 of 61 metro stations are barrier-free. The historic centre is harder work, with crowds and old paving, and the castle is best reached by tram 22 to avoid the long staircases.
Do children pay on public transport in Prague?
No. Children under 15 ride free in Prague. Under-sixes need no document. From age 10, a child has to carry a photo ID with name and date of birth, and without it the full adult fare applies. One adult travelling with a child under 3 also rides free in Prague with proof of the child's age.
How many days do you need in Prague with kids?
Three days is right for most families: one for the Old Town and the river, one for the castle and Petřín, one for the zoo. Add a fourth for the technical museum, the Kingdom of Railways or a day at Aquapalace.
What can you do in Prague with kids when it rains?
Plenty. The National Technical Museum costs CZK 80 for a child and fills three hours. The National Museum is free for under-15s and has a Children's Museum from age 4. The Kingdom of Railways, the Mořský svět aquarium and the Illusion Art Museum are all indoors, and Aquapalace is a full indoor day.
