Barcelona with kids
Barcelona with kids works best when you treat it as two cities. The flat one runs along the water: the old port, the aquarium, the zoo and Parc de la Ciutadella sit within a stroller walk of each other. The steep one is everything Gaudí and everything with a view. Park Güell, Montjuïc and Tibidabo are all uphill, and the park's own website warns about irregular paths and steep ramps.
Plan one big thing in the morning and one easy thing after lunch. The famous sights sell timed tickets online and several are free for children, so the cost is lower than it looks, but the interiors are slow going for under-5s. Every fact on the cards below was checked against the attraction's official website on the date shown.

Barcelona with kids: common questions
Is Barcelona easy with a stroller?
On the waterfront and in the Eixample grid, yes. TMB reports lifts in 156 of 165 metro stations and every bus has a ramp. The hard spots are Park Güell, which warns of steep ramps on its own site, and Casa Batlló, which stores strollers at the door.
Is the Sagrada Família worth it with young children?
Under 5, see it from outside. Under-11s enter free, so the cost is not the issue. The inside is a quiet church visit with no eating and no running, and the towers are closed to under-6s and to strollers.
Which Barcelona attractions are free for kids?
More than you would expect. CosmoCaixa is free under 16, Casa Batlló up to 12, the Sagrada Família under 11 and Park Güell under 7. The aquarium and zoo are free under 3, and the Montjuïc cable car under 4.
How many days do you need in Barcelona with kids?
Three full days cover the waterfront, the two main Gaudí sights and one hill. Add a fourth for Tibidabo or a full day at the zoo. Trying to do it in two means two timed-ticket sights a day, which is too much for under-6s.
