Prague Zoo with kids

This is the big day out of the trip, and you should give it the whole day. The zoo sits on a hillside, with a chairlift linking the lower and upper parts, a children's zoo, a children's tram and playgrounds scattered through the grounds. Several restaurants and food stands mean you do not need to carry lunch.

Ages 3 to 10 get a full, happy day here. A baby rides along comfortably in a borrowed stroller but will not remember much. Teenagers enjoy it more than they admit, though half a day is enough for them.

For small children the best detail is at the main entrance: strollers and pull-along carts are lent free of charge against an ID. Strollers take up to 15 kg and carts up to 40 kg. Most of the toilet blocks have a changing table. In October the zoo opens from 9 am to 5 pm, and in winter it closes at 4 pm.

Tips for the visit

  • Buy e-tickets: CZK 300 adult and CZK 200 child, against CZK 330 and CZK 250 at the gate.
  • The chairlift costs CZK 40 a ride for anyone over 6 and the machines take coins only. It runs March to December.
  • Bring an ID to borrow a cart. They come in two sizes and carry up to 40 kg.
  • From late March to October you can also arrive by boat on the Vltava. The trip takes 75 minutes.
