Itinerary
3 days in Prague with kids
Three days cover the main sights at a child's pace, with one big thing a day and the afternoons kept loose. Day 3 is the zoo, which you can swap for the technical museum if it rains.
Day 1
Old Town and the river
- Morning
- Be at the Old Town Hall tower when it opens at 9 am, take the lift up, and come down in time for the clock show on the hour. The Illusion Art Museum is two minutes away and fills the rest of the morning for anyone aged 6 or over.
- Afternoon
- Walk ten minutes to Čech Bridge for the 50-minute river cruise, which doubles as a rest. Finish with Charles Bridge towards evening, when the crowd thins and the lamps come on.
- Break
- The Franciscan Garden behind Wenceslas Square has a walled playground and is the calmest lunch stop in the centre.
Day 2
Castle and Petřín
- Morning
- Take tram 22 to Pražský hrad and start with St Vitus Cathedral before the tour groups arrive. With children under seven, pick two buildings of the four and call it done. The ticket is valid for two days if you want to come back.
- Afternoon
- Ride tram 22 on to Pohořelec and walk to the Petřín tower and the Mirror Maze, then take the funicular down to Újezd. Or do it the other way round and ride the funicular up.
- Break
- There is a café in the Petřín tower and plenty of grass on the hill for a picnic.
Day 3
Zoo day in Troja
- Morning
- Take metro line C to Nádraží Holešovice and bus 112 to the zoo for the 9 am opening. Borrow a cart at the main entrance and start with whatever your children most want to see, because you will not cover everything.
- Afternoon
- Ride the chairlift between the lower and upper parts, then let them loose in the children's zoo and the playgrounds. In October the zoo closes at 5 pm.
- Break
- There are several restaurants and food stands inside, so lunch does not need planning.
