Verdict by age
Not a general rating. How each age band actually experiences it.
Fine for every age and exciting for none of them. Children remember the wish on the brass cross and the boats passing underneath. Twenty minutes is enough.
Give children a job. Halfway across, a brass cross with five stars marks the spot where St John of Nepomuk was thrown into the river, and the custom is to put a finger on each star and make a wish. The bridge was begun in 1357. It works best as the walk between the Old Town and the Lesser Town side, on the way to something else.
Tips for the visit
- Look for the brass cross with five stars on the parapet and let each child make a wish.
- Cross it once on foot and see it a second time from a river boat, which children usually prefer.
- Keep small children close in the middle of the day. The crowd is dense and moves slowly.
