Itinerary
3 days in Vienna with kids
Three days, one area per day, with the main thing in the morning and somewhere to run after lunch. If the first day falls on a Tuesday, the plan still works, because the Naturhistorisches Museum is on day two.
Day 1
Schönbrunn
- Morning
- Take the U4 to Hietzing and be at the zoo gate for 9 am, when the animals are most active. Rent a handcart behind the Hippo House if you have a walker under five.
- Afternoon
- Get your zoo ticket stamped, walk over to the palace and do the Children's Museum, then the maze and the Labyrinthikon playground. Families with older children can swap this for the Palace Ticket.
- Break
- Lunch inside the zoo, where five cafes and restaurants have a microwave for baby food. The palace park is free and flat for a stroller nap.
Day 2
Museums and the old town
- Morning
- Start at the Naturhistorisches Museum at 9 am and head for the dinosaurs. Cross to the MuseumsQuartier for a ZOOM session you booked in advance, and be at the box office 15 minutes early.
- Afternoon
- Take the U3 from Volkstheater to Stephansplatz and walk into the cathedral. Ride the North Tower lift if the children still have energy. The Haus der Musik is open until 10 pm if it rains.
- Break
- The MuseumsQuartier has baby-changing stations at its main entrance. Rathauspark has a playground with sand and water play.
Day 3
Prater and the Danube
- Morning
- Take the U1 or U2 to Praterstern. Ride the Giant Ferris Wheel when it opens, then give the children an agreed number of rides in the Wurstelprater.
- Afternoon
- Take the U1 from Praterstern to Alte Donau and walk through the Donaupark to the Danube Tower. Children of six and over who are 110 cm tall can do the slide.
- Break
- The green Prater has a free playground on the Jesuitenwiese. Donaupark has three more at the foot of the tower.
