Wiener Riesenrad (Giant Ferris Wheel) with kids

The wheel stands at the entrance to the Prater and turns slowly enough that nobody gets scared. One ride takes about 12 to 15 minutes, in closed cabins that hold up to 15 people, so a family shares with others and children can move from window to window. The operator calls it the world's oldest Ferris wheel.

Six-to-ten-year-olds like it most, and it is a calm way to start or end a Prater visit. Small children enjoy the view for five minutes and then want out, which is not possible. Teenagers will prefer the faster rides next door.

You do not need a reservation. Tickets are sold online or at the cash desk and regular online tickets are valid any time on the booked date. Food and drink are not allowed in the cabins. We could not read the single-ticket prices on the official site, which loads them in a booking widget, so check there before you go. Family tickets at the cash desk start at €36.

Tips for the visit

  • Family tickets are sold at the cash desk only: €36 for 2 adults and 2 children, €41.50 with 3 children, €47 with 4.
  • Combined tickets with the zoo (€35 adult, €18.50 child), the Danube Tower and the Haus des Meeres are also sold at the cash desk.
  • Feed everyone first. No food or drink in the cabins.
