CosmoCaixa with kids

This is the science museum, and it is built for touching. Children push, spin and test their way through the main hall, then stand in front of a piece of flooded Amazon forest recreated indoors. There is a planetarium and a programme of family workshops, including a sensory space for 0 to 2-year-olds. Activities cost a few euros on top of the museum ticket.

From about 4 a child can run the exhibits alone, and it keeps teenagers interested too, which is rare. With a baby it is fine and comfortable, and worth it mainly if you book the 0-2 sensory workshop.

Expect two hours at least and up to four if you add the planetarium. The halls are kept at 21ºC all year, and the museum suggests bringing a layer on hot days. It sits high in the upper part of town, away from everything else, so make it the anchor of a half day instead of squeezing it between other sights.

Tips for the visit

  • Check the workshop list before you go. Several family sessions were sold out when we checked.
  • Entry is free for everyone on 15 February, 18 May and 24 September.
  • Bring a cardigan in summer. The halls stay at 21ºC.
