L'Aquàrium de Barcelona with kids

Children walk through the glass tunnel with sharks overhead, then work their way past the Mediterranean and tropical tanks. There is also Explora!, a children's area with more than 50 things to touch, listen to and crawl through. It recreates a delta marsh, a stretch of coast and an underwater cave, and small kids usually refuse to leave it.

Fine

This is the one place in Barcelona that works from babies in a stroller up to about 10. Teenagers will be done in an hour and may find the price steep for what it is.

The aquarium itself recommends at least two hours. That matches how long a 4-year-old lasts before the gift shop becomes the main attraction. You cannot re-enter once you leave, so eat first or use the cafeteria inside. Older children find it pleasant but short on thrills, unless you pay extra for the shark cage dive, which starts at age 8.

Tips for the visit

  • Family packs are cheaper than single tickets: 2 adults and 2 children cost €88, 1 adult and 2 children €63.
  • Lockers come in three sizes at €2, €4 and €5. Useful if you arrive with beach bags.
  • No re-entry. If you leave for lunch you pay again.
