Itinerary

3 days in Lisbon with kids

Three days, one area per day, with the big thing in the morning and somewhere to rest after lunch. Swap day 3 for Belém or Sintra if your children are eight or older.

Day 1

Parque das Nações

Morning
Take the Red line to Oriente and start at the Oceanário when it opens at 10 am. Allow up to two hours. Then ride the cable car one way along the river.
Afternoon
Walk back along the promenade and spend the afternoon at the Pavilhão do Conhecimento. The ticket allows re-entry all day, so you can step out when someone needs air.
Break
Everything here is level, so a stroller nap after lunch on the riverside promenade works well before the science centre.
Day 2

Castle, tram and park

Morning
Be at Castelo de São Jorge for the 9 am opening, before the heat. Walk the walls, find the peacocks, and leave within two hours.
Afternoon
Go down to Martim Moniz and board tram 28 at the terminus so you get seats. Ride to the Estrela basilica and cross the road to Jardim da Estrela.
Break
Have lunch near the castle before the tram. The proper rest is at Jardim da Estrela, with shade, a café and toilets.
Day 3

Zoo day

Morning
Take the Blue line to Jardim Zoológico and be at the gate for 10 am. Check the presentation times first and plan the cable car around them.
Afternoon
Stay at the zoo through the early afternoon. On the way back, get off at São Sebastião or Praça de Espanha for a slow walk around the Gulbenkian Garden.
Break
Picnic at the zoo's Enchanted Forest area at midday. A baby can nap in the stroller in the Gulbenkian Garden later.
