Jardim Zoológico (Lisbon Zoo) with kids

This is a big zoo and it takes most of a day. Children walk from enclosure to enclosure, watch the scheduled animal presentations and ride the cable car that crosses the grounds. There is a picnic area in the Enchanted Forest with tables, shade and play structures, which is the natural lunch stop.

Ages 3 to 10 will love it and can fill a whole day. A baby is happy in the stroller but gets little from it and misses the cable car. Teenagers go along with it if younger siblings are there.

The price is high for Lisbon, so come when the gates open and stay. Strollers and wheelchairs are not allowed in the cable car cabins, which means one adult waits below with the baby. Small legs tire after three or four hours. The zoo rents strollers for ages 3 to 10.

Tips for the visit

Bring cash for the stroller rental deposit. Rental runs 10 am to 4 pm in the winter timetable.
Presentations can be cancelled without notice, so check the day's schedule at the entrance before promising anything.
Bring a picnic. The Enchanted Forest area has tables and shade.
Tickets are not refunded or exchanged, so buy once the weather forecast is clear.
