Kongens Have (The King's Garden) with kids

The King's Garden is the park around Rosenborg Castle and the place where central Copenhagen takes its children. It is free and opens at 7 am all year. The park's official page lists a fairytale playground and a traditional puppet theatre. There are four entrances, on Gothersgade, Sølvgade, Kronprinsessegade and Øster Voldgade.

Babies and under-6s are the ones who need this stop, and their parents need it more. Older children will use the lawn for half an hour. Pair it with the castle only if yours are 8 or older.

It gets more than three million visitors a year, so a sunny weekend is busy, but there is plenty of lawn. Use it as the break in a sightseeing day: the Round Tower is a short walk away and Rosenborg is inside the gates. Picnic tables stand outside the Castle Shop. We could not confirm toilets on an official page.

Tips for the visit

  • Bring a picnic and a ball and plan an hour here after any indoor sight.
  • Closing time changes month by month. In March it is 7 pm and in April 9 pm.
