Den Blå Planet (National Aquarium Denmark) with kids

Den Blå Planet is out in Kastrup, on the M2 metro line that runs to the airport, and it is the easiest rainy-day answer in the city. The aquarium itself recommends bringing a stroller for babies and small children, and most of the building is level with wide doors. Platform lifts serve the Ocean, Amazon and Faroese Bird Cliff exhibits.

Fine

Great from babyhood to about 10. Dark rooms, big glass and slow-moving fish hold a baby's attention as well as a six-year-old's. Teenagers like the sharks and are done in an hour.

Online tickets are sold for a one-hour slot and you can walk in at any point within that hour. Buying online saves 30 DKK per adult. There is a free cloakroom with lockers by the entrance and a cafe, Café Plankton, inside. On the day we checked, the aquarium said the lift in the Rainforest was temporarily out of service.

Tips for the visit

  • Do it on arrival or departure day. Kastrup is on the same M2 line as the airport and the cloakroom has lockers big enough for suitcases.
  • Lockers are paid by phone, so have mobile data working.
  • Bus 5C also stops at Den Blå Planet, about 200 m from the door.
