Copenhagen Zoo with kids

Copenhagen Zoo is big enough for most of a day and compact enough that small legs cope. There is a Kids' Zoo for the youngest, a Tropical House for when it rains, and a daily programme posted on the zoo's site. The ticket is valid for a year from purchase, so you can buy ahead without picking a date.

Ages 2 to 10 get the most out of it, and babies do fine here thanks to the nursing room and changing tables. Teenagers will walk round politely. It is a long day, so rent the cart.

The zoo rents pull-along carts at the entrance, which save the afternoon with a three-year-old. Baby facilities are better than at most sights in town: a nursing room by the restrooms nearest the entrance, changing tables by the Tropical House and the Kids' Zoo, and emergency diapers at the gate. Several restaurants and kiosks sell food inside.

Tips for the visit

Check the day's programme on the zoo's site before you go and plan the route around one or two feedings.
You normally cannot leave and re-enter on the same ticket. Ask the entrance staff first if you need to.
Lockers at the entrance cost 10 DKK each time you open them.
From Valby or the Fasanvej and Frederiksberg Alle metro stations it is a walk or a short bus ride.
