Canal tour from Nyhavn with kids

A canal boat is the low-effort way to see Nyhavn, the Opera House, Amalienborg and the Little Mermaid without walking any of it. Stromma's Classic Canal Tour lasts one hour, with no stops, and leaves from Nyhavn 3 or Ved Stranden 26. In late spring and summer the boats are open. In the colder months they are covered and heated.

Good for ages 6 and up, who will sit for an hour and spot things. With a toddler an hour without getting off is long, and with a baby you need a carrier. Do it once and choose a dry day.

Two rules matter with small children. Strollers, prams and buggies cannot come on board. You can leave them at the departure point at your own risk, and Stromma suggests bringing a lock. And the boats have no toilets, so use the public ones near the ticket offices first. Adult prices apply from age 16.

Tips for the visit

Take the smallest child to the toilet right before boarding.
If it rains on an open boat the crew hands out free ponchos.
From 1 October to 3 January, Nyhavn departures are live-guided only. The audio guide runs through an app, so bring headphones.
