Zoo Berlin with kids

Berlin Zoo sits in the middle of the City West and says it keeps more species than any other zoo in the world, close to 1,200. Germany's only giant pandas live here, and the Panda Garden is where everyone heads first. There are commentated feedings every day, a petting zoo with goats and donkeys, and a large playground with suspension bridges and slides.

Ages 3 to 10 get a full day out of it between the pandas, the petting zoo and the playground. A baby is content in the stroller without taking much in. Teenagers tolerate it, mostly for the big cats.

Most of the grounds are step-free, and you can bring your own handcart or use a bike trailer in place of a stroller. The restaurants will warm baby food and hand out bibs. Gate prices are far higher than online ones, so book ahead. Under 12s must stay with an adult.

Tips for the visit

The time slot only fixes when you enter. You can stay until closing.
Animal houses and restaurants shut 30 minutes before the zoo does.
Balance bikes and scooters are allowed for children up to 5. Balls and balloons are not.
The combined ticket with the Aquarium starts at €24 for adults and €11 for children online.
