Deutsches Technikmuseum with kids

Locomotives in a real engine shed, boats you can steer into a harbour, aircraft overhead and a Candy Bomber on the roof terrace. The same ticket covers the Science Center Spectrum next door, with more than 150 experiments children run themselves. The museum suggests two to three hours for families, or a whole day with Spectrum and lunch.

From six up this is one of the best museums in the city, and teenagers do not get bored. Three-to-five-year-olds like the trains and Spectrum but tire of the rest. With a baby it is comfortable, though the baby will not care.

Under 18s get in free but still need a zero-euro ticket. There are changing tables in the restrooms, several rooms for feeding and breastfeeding, strollers to borrow and picnic areas indoors and in the park. The park also has a playground. Children under ten may not go around on their own. Open Tuesday to Sunday.

Tips for the visit

  • Möckernbrücke station is not wheelchair-accessible. Use Gleisdreieck with a stroller.
  • Backpacks and large bags are not allowed inside Spectrum. Lockers are at both entrances.
  • A ticket from the Museum für Naturkunde gets a second adult in free at the cashier.
  • The museum park is cobbled in places, so expect a bumpy push.
