Spree boat cruise with kids

A one-hour loop on the Spree is the easiest way to show children the cathedral, the Reichstag and the main station without anyone walking. Reederei Hadynski runs it from a pier near Hackescher Markt station, with live commentary in German and English.

Six-to-ten-year-olds get the most from it, since they recognise what they pass. It works as a rest for everyone on a heavy sightseeing day. Babies usually sleep through it.

The boats have a glass roof that opens in summer and closes when it is cold or wet, plus a shaded section at the back. There are toilets on board, and drinks, ice cream and snacks for sale. Seats are not assigned, so the operator asks you to be at the pier 30 minutes early. An hour is about right for a five-year-old. A toddler who wants to run will find it long.

Tips for the visit

Online tickets are sold until 60 minutes before departure.
On hot days get there 25 minutes early if you want the shaded seats at the back.
With a Welcome Card or Easy City Pass the adult fare drops to €15.50.
Ask the operator about stroller space before you book. The website does not say.
