Gärten der Welt with kids

A large landscaped park in Marzahn with gardens in Chinese, Japanese, Balinese, English and other styles, a maze, and playgrounds good enough to justify the trip on their own. The water playground has a climbing whale, a trampoline and a giant hammock. A cable car 1.5 kilometres long links the park to the U5 station at Kienberg.

Fine

Toddlers to ten-year-olds can spend a whole day here between the playgrounds, the maze and the cable car. Babies get a long, flat stroller walk. Teenagers will ask why you came this far for gardens.

It is far from the centre, so give it most of a day. The park is barrier-free for pushchairs from the main and north entrances, there are restaurants and snack bars inside, and the ticket offices rent pushcarts. The cable car can close at short notice in strong wind. From 1 November the winter day ticket drops to €4 and some gardens close.

Tips for the visit

  • Buy the combined ticket and arrive by cable car from Kienberg. For most children that is the best part.
  • About one cabin in ten has a glass floor.
  • The visitor centre lends wooden toys for free.
  • The Japanese Garden opens an hour later than the park, at 10 am.
