Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex with kids

This is NASA's visitor complex on the Atlantic coast, a day trip by car from Orlando. You walk under real rockets, see the shuttle Atlantis and take the bus tour behind the gates. It is a long day with a lot of looking and listening, which suits school-age children far better than toddlers.

For a space-mad child of 7 or more this is the best day out in Florida. Teenagers rate it too. Under 5 it is mostly a long drive followed by Planet Play, and with a baby I would skip it.

Small children are not forgotten. Planet Play is an indoor multi-storey play area for ages 2 to 12, with a lounge where parents can sit with a coffee and still see them. Strollers rent for $8 single or $10 double plus tax. You may bring food in a small soft-sided cooler, which helps with the budget.

Tips for the visit

  • Pack lunch in a small soft cooler. Glass and alcohol are not allowed.
  • Seniors aged 55 and over pay $72, but only at the ticket window.
  • The 2-day ticket costs $14 more than one day, which is worth it if you are staying on the coast.
  • Use Planet Play as the reward stop in the afternoon.
