Gatorland with kids

Gatorland is an alligator park south of the city, and it is nothing like the big parks. You walk boardwalks over ponds full of alligators and crocodiles, watch the keepers' shows, and let small children loose in the petting barnyard. There is a little train too.

Children from 3 to 10 love it, and it is an easy half day that costs little. A baby is fine in the stroller. Teenagers enjoy the shows and can pay extra for the zip line.

It costs $34.99 for adults and $24.99 for ages 3 to 12, with $3 off if you buy online. Children aged 2 and under are free and so is the parking. The park says every area is accessible, and strollers rent for $11 single or $16 double. You cannot bring any food in, so plan to eat at the park's own restaurant or snack bar.

Tips for the visit

  • Buy online to save $3 on each adult and child ticket.
  • No food, coolers or picnic baskets are allowed in.
  • Shows repeat several times a day. Check the schedule when you arrive.
  • Leave luggage in the car, out of sight. Bags are searched at the gate.
