Verdict by age
Not a general rating. How each age band actually experiences it.
From six upwards this is one of the best paid sights in London. Below that, the stairs, cobbles and queues make it tiring for everyone, and a toddler gets very little from it.
It is a poor fit for under-5s. Parts of the site are cobbled and not pushchair friendly, and buggies are not allowed in the White Tower at all, so you leave yours at a buggy park and carry. Under-5s enter free, which helps, but they will mostly want to run on the grass. See the Crown Jewels first, before the line builds.
Tips for the visit
- Bring a carrier for a baby. Buggy storage is limited and you may have to keep the pushchair with you outside the towers.
- Tower Hill station is five minutes away and has step-free access to the street.
- Allow three hours if you want the Crown Jewels and the White Tower.
