SEA LIFE London Aquarium with kids

The aquarium sits on the South Bank and takes 1 to 1.5 hours by the operator's own estimate. That is the right length for a toddler. It is dark, warm and fully step-free, with lifts throughout, so you can keep a sleeping baby in the pushchair the whole way round. The glass shark walk near the start is what small children talk about afterwards.

Great for babies and under-6s, who get a lot from an hour of fish at eye level. For 6 to 10 it is fine as a rainy-day filler. Older children enjoy it but it is expensive for the time it fills.

For the price, it is short. Children of eight and over walk through quickly and may ask what is next. Book online in advance, because the walk-up price is £39 for an adult against £28 online. There is no cloakroom for pushchairs, so travel light.

Tips for the visit

  • Pair it with the London Eye next door and you have a whole morning without using transport.
  • Go to the toilet when you pass one. The three main blocks are spaced out along the route.
  • Children of 15 and under must be with an adult aged 18 or over.
