London Zoo with kids

This is the easiest full outing in London with small children. Most of the site is step-free, there are baby change areas marked on the zoo map, and you can hire a pushchair from the gift shop if you left yours at the hotel. ZooTown is an indoor play area with its own toilets and a sheltered buggy park outside, useful when the weather turns.

Fine

It works at every age up to about ten, and babies are easy here because of the step-free paths and changing areas. From 11 it depends on the child. Animal lovers stay happy, others get bored after two hours.

Animal Adventure is the children's zone and the place where under-6s spend the longest. Do not try to see everything. Pick four or five enclosures, eat early, and expect a three-year-old to be done after about three hours. Older children last longer, but teenagers may find it young.

Tips for the visit

  • Camden Town is the nearest Tube station, a 16 minute walk. Bus 274 from Baker Street stops on Prince Albert Road by the zoo.
  • Book the free under-3 ticket at the same time as yours.
  • Double pushchairs can be hired for £15 if you have two small ones.
