Thames cruise, Westminster to Tower Bridge with kids

The boat leaves Westminster Pier and takes about 35 minutes to reach Butler's Wharf Pier, beside Tower Bridge. On the way you pass the Houses of Parliament, the London Eye, St Paul's and the Tower of London, with live commentary in English. For tired legs it is the best way to see the landmarks at once.

Children from three to ten like being on the water and it gives adults a rest. Babies are fine on a lap. Teenagers tolerate it as transport and will not ask to go again.

Use it as a one-way transfer between the South Bank sights and the Tower. The round trip takes about 1 hour 10 minutes including a change of boat, which is long for a small child. Under-3s enjoy the motion for ten minutes and then want to move, so sit near an exit.

Tips for the visit

  • Buy the one-way ticket and walk across Tower Bridge to the Tower of London afterwards.
  • The ticket has separate rates for children aged 5 to 11 and for under-5s.
  • Boarding is at Westminster Pier on Victoria Embankment, Boarding Point B.
