London Transport Museum with kids

Old buses and Tube carriages you can climb into, in the middle of Covent Garden. For a child obsessed with trains or buses this beats every big-name sight in London. The All Aboard play zone is aimed at ages 0 to 7, with mini vehicles to drive and costumes to try on.

Fine

Great from babies up to about ten, with the play zone carrying the youngest. From 11 it is a pleasant hour, no more, unless transport is their thing.

The museum is small, which is a strength. Ninety minutes to two hours covers it, and it is fully accessible with a pushchair. Adults pay £27, but that ticket is an annual pass and children of 17 and under are free, so a family of four pays less than at most paid attractions. Older children finish faster.

Tips for the visit

  • The nearest step-free Tube station is Tottenham Court Road, a 12 minute walk. Covent Garden is two minutes away but has no step-free access.
  • Keep the adult ticket. It lets you back in for a year.
  • The cafe has high chairs and baby changing.
