Berliner Fernsehturm (TV Tower) with kids

The TV Tower stands opposite Alexanderplatz station and you can see it from most of the city. Children who like lifts and heights enjoy going up. The visit is short: a security check like at an airport, the lift, a slow lap of the windows on the observation deck and perhaps a drink at the bar.

Worth it once with children over five on a clear day. With a toddler you will spend the visit holding them up to the glass. With a baby it is doable in a carrier but there is little point.

Two things to know before you book. Strollers cannot go up and are left free of charge at the cloakroom, so bring a carrier for a baby. And the tower is not accessible: anyone who cannot move without help is refused entry, because the emergency route is about 900 steps. Tickets are tied to a time slot with 15 minutes of grace.

Tips for the visit

  • Backpacks larger than 45 x 35 x 20 cm are not allowed and there is no luggage storage.
  • You can rebook online up to 10 minutes before your slot. Refunds are not given.
  • Student and Berlin Welcome Card discounts are only given at the box office.
  • Check the forecast first. On a cloudy day you are paying to stand in fog.
