The visit is a two-level cloister of carved stone and a large church. An adult can spend an hour on the details. A child sees a courtyard, some arches and a lot of other visitors. Under-5s will want to leave after ten minutes, so skip the interior with them and look at the facade from the gardens outside.

Honest verdict: this is for the adults. Older children with some interest in history cope fine for 45 minutes. With preschoolers, see it from outside and move on to the riverside.

From about eight, with a story about ships and explorers ready, 45 minutes is realistic. The site is closed on Mondays and the ticket office shuts at 4:30 pm. The official pages say nothing about strollers or toilets, so do not count on either.

Tips for the visit

The official ticket page lists a 50% reduction for an adult accompanying a minor. Ask for it and carry ID for the child.
Closed on Mondays, 1 January, Easter Sunday, 1 May, 13 June and 25 December.
If the line is long and your children are small, drop it. The gardens in front are free.
