Efteling with kids

Efteling is in Kaatsheuvel, in the south of the country, and it is the theme park Dutch children grow up with. Its heart is the Fairytale Forest, a walk through woods past scenes from stories that small children can enjoy with no height limits. Around it are dark rides and enough coasters for teenagers, with height limits on the bigger ones. Baron 1898, for example, needs 1.32 m.

It works for almost every age at once, which is rare. Ages 3 to 10 get the fairy tales and gentle rides, teenagers get the coasters. With a baby it is a long day mostly spent pushing a stroller, so only go if older siblings are the reason.

This takes the whole day, with well over an hour of travel each way. Do not try it on a three-day city break. Ticket prices depend on the date, and children aged 0 to 3 go free. Every toilet block has a changing cubicle, and strollers can be rented.

Tips for the visit

  • Buy dated tickets online in advance. The price changes by day.
  • Check ride height limits on the official site before promising a coaster.
  • Restaurants will warm a bottle or baby meal if you ask.
  • Count the travel time honestly. It is a day trip, not a half day.
