Paris Zoo (Parc Zoologique de Paris) with kids

The zoo is in the Bois de Vincennes on the east side of the city. Animals are grouped in five biozones by where they come from. The route includes a tropical greenhouse and a large African aviary where birds fly around you. Lions, jaguars, white rhinos, zebras, fur seals and meerkats are all on the list.

Fine

This works for every age up to about 10, toddlers included, because it is outdoors, paced by you and full of things to point at. Over-11s enjoy it if they like animals. It is a long walk for a 4-year-old without a pushchair.

The zoo advises at least two hours. Enclosures are large and planted, so animals are sometimes hard to spot, which frustrates small children. Check the feeding times and come back to an enclosure later. Picnics are allowed in the marked areas only. There are no lockers, and scooters and bikes are not allowed in, so travel light.

Tips for the visit

  • The family pass covers 2 adults and 2 children aged 3 to 12 for €68, against €78 bought separately.
  • Porte Dorée on line 8 is under 10 minutes on foot from the entrance. Tram T3 stops there too.
  • Hired pushchairs must be back at least 30 minutes before closing.
