Eiffel Tower with kids

Children ride a lift up the leg of the tower, which is half the fun. The first floor has a glass floor 58 metres above the ground and a history trail with touchscreens. Free activity booklets for young visitors are handed out at the lift and stair entrances.

From 5 or 6 this is a real highlight, and teenagers like the stairs option. Under-5s get little from it beyond the lift ride, and the security checks and waits are long for them. With a baby it is doable in a carrier, but it is mostly for you.

The official site advises at least an hour and a half for the first and second floors, and two and a half hours if you add the top. With under-6s, skip the top. It needs a separate lift from the second floor, and that is where the extra wait builds. Under-4s are free but still need their own ticket.

Tips for the visit

  • Book a timed ticket on the official site. Going up without one means the ticket-office queue first.
  • A top-floor ticket costs €36.70 per adult against €23.50 for the second floor. With small children the cheaper one is also the better visit.
  • Fold the pushchair before security. Non-folding models are not accepted.
  • Change nappies on the second floor before deciding about the summit. There is no changing table up there.
