Getting around Paris with kids
Paris public transport is dense and cheap for children, but the metro is old and full of stairs. With a pushchair, plan around buses, trams and line 14. Fares below were checked on the Île-de-France Mobilités site.
Step-free metro means line 14
Île-de-France Mobilités states that line 14 is the only metro line fully accessible, with lifts at every station. It stops at Pyramides, close to the Louvre, and runs out to Orly airport. On the older lines, expect stairs and bring a carrier or a pushchair you can lift.
Buses and trams with a pushchair
According to Île-de-France Mobilités, every tram line and every Paris bus line is accessible. That makes them the easier choice with a pushchair. A bus and tram ticket costs €2.05 and is a different ticket from the metro one.
Child fares
Children under 4 travel free and need no ticket. From 4 to under 10 they pay half: €1.30 on the metro, train and RER and €1.05 on buses and trams. An adult metro ticket is €2.55. Tickets load onto a Navigo Easy card or a phone.
Airport to the centre
The Paris Region Airports ticket costs €14 per trip, or €7 for children from 4 to under 10. It covers Charles de Gaulle by RER B and Orly by metro line 14 or Orlyval. From Orly, line 14 is the step-free route into the city.
Taxis and car seats
G7, a Paris taxi company, runs a G7 Famille service. Its cars carry a baby seat for ages 0 to 4 and one or two boosters for ages 4 to 10. You choose that service level when you order, so book it rather than hailing a cab.
Walking
Central Paris is mostly flat, and the sights along the river are closer together than the metro map suggests. The Eiffel Tower, the cruise pier and the aquarium are one short walk apart. Montmartre is the exception: it is a hill with long flights of steps.
