Louvre Museum with kids

The Louvre is the largest thing on this list and the easiest to get wrong. A child does not tour it. A child sees the Egyptian rooms, a couple of very large paintings and the back of a crowd in front of the Mona Lisa. Choose three stops before you walk in.

Great

Teenagers with an interest in art or history will get a lot from two hours here. For 6 to 10 it works only as a short, targeted visit. With under-5s it is a long indoor walk through crowds, and we would skip the interior and enjoy the courtyard and the Tuileries instead.

The Studio, on the ground floor of the Richelieu wing, is the family space. It has games and free activities, plus a baby area with a bottle warmer, a microwave and a nursing chair. Use it as the halfway break. Any exit from the museum is final, so you cannot step out for lunch and come back.

Tips for the visit

  • Only front-worn baby carriers are allowed. The museum lends them, along with pushchairs, in exchange for ID.
  • Line 14 stops at Pyramides, which the museum lists as a nearby station. It is the step-free metro line.
  • Non-EEA adults now pay €32, so a short visit with small children is an expensive one. Ask yourselves honestly if the inside is worth it this trip.
