Verdict by age
Not a general rating. How each age band actually experiences it.
Older children and teenagers like the climb and the view of the traffic circling below. A 4-year-old can manage the stairs slowly but will need carrying on the way down. With a baby or a pushchair, look at it from the pavement and move on.
The monument has a lift for visitors who need it, but the official page says it is under maintenance until further notice. Today the stairs are the only way up. Pushchairs are not allowed inside and are left with security staff. That rules it out with a baby unless you carry them. Under-18s are free. From about 7 it is a short, satisfying climb, and quicker and cheaper than the Eiffel Tower.
Tips for the visit
- Check the official page for the lift status before you go if anyone in the group cannot do stairs.
- Last admission is 45 minutes before closing.
- On Tuesdays it opens at 11am rather than 10am in the winter season.
