Madame Tussauds Amsterdam with kids

You walk through rooms of wax film stars, footballers, singers and royals and take photos with them. That is the whole visit. An average visit lasts about an hour, according to the attraction. Children enjoy it in proportion to how many of the faces they recognise, which in practice means from about 8.

Teenagers with a phone are the real audience and will happily fill an hour. Ages 6 to 10 recognise a few figures and little else. Under 5s do not know who anyone is, and the stairs make it hard work with a stroller.

It is indoors and on Dam Square, so it works as a rain plan. Strollers are allowed, but the attraction warns there are various stairs and nowhere to store one. Staff will help carry. Book a time slot online, since the door price is clearly higher. Skip it with toddlers and put the money towards the zoo.

Tips for the visit

  • Book online a day ahead. The door price is the worst deal.
  • Bring a carrier if you have a baby. There is no stroller parking.
  • Charge the phone before you go in.
  • The evening ticket from 17:00 is cheaper. It is sold Friday to Sunday, and daily in Dutch school holidays.
