teamLab Planets with kids

teamLab Planets is a walk-through art space where you take your shoes off and wade through rooms of light, mirrors and water. The water reaches an adult's knees, so it comes to a small child's waist or higher. Children with an inseam under 40 cm cannot walk the koi room on their own and must be carried or worn in a front carrier.

A highlight from four upward, teenagers included. With a baby it is hard work: no stroller, dark corridors, water, and a parent with full arms the whole time. Staff can show you routes that skip rooms if a child gets scared.

Kids from about four love it. It is dark between rooms and some floors are soft and unstable, which thrills a six-year-old and can frighten a two-year-old. Expect 90 minutes to two hours. Bags go in free lockers and strollers are left at the entrance. Bring spare clothes for small children, because they will get wet.

Tips for the visit

Dress children in shorts or trousers that roll above the knee.
Tell staff if you want to skip a room. There are detour routes for families.
Tickets from the official store can be changed up to 2 hours before entry, three times at most.
