Villa Borghese with kids

This is where you take children when they have had enough of looking at things. Villa Borghese is 80 hectares of paved avenues, grass and pines above Piazza del Popolo. You can row a boat on the small lake around the Temple of Aesculapius, hire bikes or a four-seat pedal cart, and there are pony rides and a little train.

Fine

Good at every age up to ten because it is open space with things to ride. Teenagers will like the bikes and the view and be done in an hour.

The Casina di Raffaello is a playroom for ages 3 to 14, and the Cinema dei Piccoli is a tiny children's cinema. The park is free and always open. It is big, so pick one corner: the lake side for boats, or the Pincio terrace for the view and the walk down to Piazza del Popolo. Bring water and snacks in with you.

Tips for the visit

  • The Bioparco zoo is inside the park, so the two fit in one day.
  • Enter from Piazzale Flaminio for the lake, or from Via Pinciana for the Borghese Gallery side.
  • Do not count on finding public toilets in the park. Use a cafe or one of the museums.
