Empire State Building with kids

Everyone asks about this one. The 86th floor deck is outdoors, which children like more than a glass room, and the exhibits on the way up include a King Kong display that small ones remember. The building suggests 90 minutes to two hours for a family visit.

Worth it once with children of 6 and over who know the building. Under-fives get little from a view and you will be holding a folded stroller. If the price hurts, the Roosevelt Island Tram gives a skyline view for a subway fare.

It is expensive, and that is the honest problem. Standard tickets to the 86th floor start at $46, and the 102nd floor costs a lot more for a view that is only slightly higher. Children 5 and under are free with a paying adult. Strollers are allowed in the building but have to be folded in the observatory areas, so a carrier is easier with a baby. Reservations are required.
