Bronx Zoo with kids

The Bronx Zoo is a whole-day trip and worth it if your children are between 3 and 10. It is very large, with gorillas, giraffes, tigers, a reptile house and a seasonal monorail. Distances between areas are long, so choose one half of the zoo for the morning and the other for after lunch.

The best animal day in New York for ages 3 to 10. With a baby it is a lot of walking and stroller parking for little return. Teenagers are fine for half a day.

Strollers are the catch. Many indoor exhibits require you to park yours outside, including JungleWorld, Congo Gorilla Forest, Madagascar and World of Reptiles, and the seasonal zoo shuttle only takes folded ones. The zoo rents strollers. Dancing Crane Cafe is open daily all year, with more food stands from April to October.

Tips for the visit

The zoo suggests the BxM11 express bus, Metro-North, or the 2 or 5 subway to West Farms Sq-E Tremont Av, E 180 St or Pelham Pkwy.
The zoo shuttle runs April to October and is included with admission. Strollers must be folded to board.
Take your valuables when you park the stroller. The zoo says it is left at your own risk.
