Verdict by age
Not a general rating. How each age band actually experiences it.
Ages 3 to 10 get the most out of it. Babies are fine in a stroller but will not remember much, and it is a long day outdoors for them. Teenagers tend to like the aquarium and the dolphins and drift through the rest.
With under-5s, do not try to see everything. Four hours is about the limit before legs give up, and the official site lists stroller rental at the entrance for that reason. There is a picnic area next to the dolphinarium if you bring your own lunch. Older children who have seen bigger zoos may be done sooner.
Tips for the visit
- EMT bus 33 from Príncipe Pío stops at the zoo door. The metro leaves you a 900 m walk through the park.
- The official site sells a Zoo plus Faunia pack, worth a look if you plan both.
- Lockers at the entrance take cabin-size bags, from €5.
