Family card
Verdict by age
Not a general rating. How each age band actually experiences it.
From 8 or so, with a short list, it works and costs nothing for the child. Under-5s should skip it. A baby in a carrier is possible but you will rush. Teenagers who like art can stay two hours.
Under-5s get nothing from it and the galleries are quiet enough that a noisy toddler feels like a problem. If you have one, take turns: one adult inside, one in the Retiro a short walk away. The city tourism office lists lifts, a cloakroom, baby-changing and a nursing room. Entry is free for everyone in the last two hours of the day, and crowded.
Tips for the visit
- Children still need a free ticket. Bring ID showing their age.
- Decide your five paintings before you go in. The floor plan is confusing.
- The Retiro is a short walk uphill, which makes a good reward.
